The SmithShaper® Story
Louis Morales, a co-inventor of six patents, brings over 20 years of product development and marketing experience to the SmithShaper team. Louis is also an active amateur beach volleyball player and coach.
Louis became involved in the infancy of the SmithShaper Exerciser concept in late 2015 when he teamed with Marcus Smith, a former body builder. Marcus wanted to find a safe way to perform squats at home in limited space. In early 2015, Marcus had his first working prototype. Around that time, Louis was searching for a rolling wall squat device to target his leg muscles in a way that would lessen stress and strain to his one "football" knee. This led Louis right to Marcus. Before long, the two became partners and formed SmithShaper LLC in the fall of 2015.
Louis worked with Marcus to refine the design and led the effort to reconfigure the axles and update the prototype with special non-marking wheels so the device would be safe to use on fine walls or floors and roll smoothly and quietly for additional exercises. SmithShaper teamed with Louis' ZOBOAPPS firm to design the now registered SmithShaper® trademark, brand, website and marketing materials. Louis then completed the patent application Marcus initiated in 2014. A U.S. patent was granted to SmithShaper LLC in April 2018 for the invention of the SmithShaper multipurpose exerciser.
While testing the SmithShaper® Ab Squat Roller™ device with various certified trainers, the SmithShaper team (including Tiffany Morales, a former two-sport NCAA athlete) developed multiple exercise applications for the device. Tiffany said, "we realized in our testing that the SmithShaper Ab Squat Multipurpose Exerciser is hands down better than any other rolling workout platform due to its versatility." Louis added, "No form of single or dual wheel abdominal rolling exerciser, ab roller, ab wheel, or sliding board can compare."
In 2019, Marcus decided to leave the business and Louis became CEO of SmithShaper LLC. Louis believes customers are beginning to understand the value represented by the SMITHSHAPER® brand. These values include the freedom to workout anywhere — indoors or outdoors — portability, exercise variety, exercise effectiveness, and durability. SMITHSHAPER® exercisers can address the goals of many who embark upon a fitness quest: to tone and shape, build and strengthen muscles, jump higher, increase balance, enhance one's core, increase mobility, or protect and build up the ligaments and muscles around previously injured joints.
SmithShaper® exercisers continue to provide more value compared to single-use exercisers. In other words, SMITHSHAPER delivers more exercises per dollar spent compared to other portable devices. The SMITHSHAPER LLC product line continues to evolve. In 2023, the new SQUATX® Max 85-Exercise System brought serious versatility. Portable and unique self-anchored and door-anchored resistance band bars such as the TR-BAR and TR-BAR PLUS add multiple exercises to the system. What's revolutionary are the productivity gains from combination exercises within the new SQUATX® exercise system. The SQUATX device itself is a version of the patented SmithShaper ASR that enables both bodyweight and band resistance training — rolling wall squats and resistance band chest presses can be performed simultaneously.
The robust SQUATX® Exercise App became widely available for iOS and Android smart phone users in April 2024. The app allows people to arrange, save, and run their own easy-to-difficult workouts. For each exercise repetition within a person's Workout of the Day (WoD), the associated SmithShaper exercise video plays on the timer screen. Exercises can be selected by muscle group, SmithShaper exercise device, or by exercise name.
